Some members of Trinity were at Pearson airport on Wednesday June 24th to welcome with excitement the arrival of a family of three into a new life in Canada. The young father, mother and three year old boy who Trinity has sponsored for resettlement traveled from Ban Mai Nai Soi refugee camp in northern Thailand. They are Kayah by heritage, and their families once lived in Burma. For months, Trinity has been planning for their arrival by making preparations in housing, clothing and trying to educate ourselves on the language and culture! After a twenty-four hour bus ride, two international flights and the ride to this region, they are now installed at a parish family home, while they wait for the apartment that they will move into on July 1st. Months of anticipation have brought us all to a new beginning!
Carnival fun!
The year end Trinity carnival took place on Sunday, June 7th after worship – here are some highlights! They include Youth Minister Nathan Mantey getting dunked! Face painting, games and races, water balloon tosses, ice treats and prizes — it was a great day! Many thanks to Nathan, the youth and children and the Parents Advisory Group! Check out the images at right and on the Image Gallery Page!
Pentecost!
Trinity celebrated Pentecost on Sunday, May 24th with a colourful choir singing an anthem! We also gathered for a great “Sparks” discussion of the future of the Faith Adventures and Youth programs in our church. Go to our Image Gallery to see more pictures from the day!
Next week, May 31st, is Music Sunday when the Trinity Choir and Handbell Ensemble will perform a variety of works. After worship, we will gather to hear more about what it means to resettle refugees in our community. Join us! All are welcome.
Spark Sunday!
As we celebrate the Holy Spirit’s tongues of fire descending on the gathered faithful on Pentecost, we hope to spark some interest in children’s education ministry at Trinity and ignite some new enthusiasm for faith formation among our younger members.
Matt Ramer will continue his fine children’s messages at worship — and incorporate a thanksgiving to our Faith Adventures teachers during this 2014 – 2015 program year.
After worship, Faith Adventures will gather for singing with Nathan and the youth before they meet with their teacher.
Meanwhile, all young and older adults, as well as parents and grandparents are invited to gather in the Martin Luther Room to reflect on our ministry to our younger members. We’ll explore what’s been happening and why. We’ll dream dreams and envision visions about how to engage younger members and their families in our ministry of faith formation.
It’s a Holy Spirited Sunday opportunity not to be missed!
