Refugee Resettlement

The Refugee Sponsorship Task Team works closely with Canadian Lutheran World Relief to welcome the stranger in our midst. The aim is to help resettle families who have been displaced as a result of war, political strife and persecution because of race, religion, nationality, social group or political opinion.

The group organizes fundraising events to financially support those in our sponsorship program and serves to co-ordinate efforts in the congregation and the community to access food, clothing, housing and transportation. This team assists the sponsored individuals or families in navigating services such as health care, education, language training and employment opportunities. In partnership with the congregation, it also supplies important emotional support to the individual or family seeking refuge through our program. Trinity’s Refugee Sponsorship Task Team is willing to assist other congregations and groups in our area to start or participate in a Refugee Sponsorship Program.

The Task Team and the congregation at large have the privilege of developing new friendships and learning of another culture and way of life. (For more information about this important ministry, please contact Task Team Chair Rebecca Larson.)
